Certified Tai Chi and Yoga instructor Kathy Hagood will lead hour-long workshops combining interactive discussion with brief periods of meditation.
Meditation and Mindfulness Workshop WEEK 3
Thursday, April 4th 10am-11am – Using music and chanting. Meditation to several types of music. Classic chanting techniques, including several on YouTube.
Have you heard that scientific studies are showing meditation and mindfulness offers a wide variety of psychological and physical benefits from improving your mood and helping you sleep better to lowering your blood pressure and risks of cardiovascular disease? Research shows it can thicken the cerebral cortex in the brain, improving learning and memory.
The stereotype of meditation is sitting around in an awkward position on the floor thinking of nothing, which sounds uncomfortable and boring. But nothing could be farther from the truth. Meditation is a process of learning to focus the mind. That process naturally generates soothing alpha brain waves and deeply relaxes and heals the body and mind. You can easily meditate sitting in a chair.
There are numerous ways to meditate effectively and by trying various options during the workshop, you are likely to find a way that is right for you. You may even enjoy several types of meditation and want to incorporate one or more into your daily routine.
Certified Tai Chi and Yoga instructor Kathy Hagood will lead hour-long “Meditation and Mindfulness” workshops at Emmet O’Neal Library from 10am-11am on Thursdays March 7th and 14th, April 4th and 11th, and May 2nd and 9th. She will combine interactive discussion with brief periods of meditation and mindfulness to show you how easy and beneficial it is to meditate. Each week begins with introductions, participants’ personal experiences, interactive discussion of day’s topic and cultivating everyday mindfulness and relaxation as a way of life. Put the whole series on your calendar or drop in to the class that interests you!
For the workshop, please wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and prepare to relax and have fun. For more information, contact Holley at 205.445.1117 or hwesley@bham.lib.al.us.
