Celebrate Under the Mountain's 2nd Birthday with Alejandro's Jodorowsky's Legendary Horror Fantasia!
It’s Under the Mountain’s birthday, and we’re starting off our terrible twos with a bang! On Sunday, January 14 at 7pm, we will be showing the legendary Chilean-French director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Santa Sangre (1989), restored in eyeball-popping 4k!
We will have music, a free spooky short story featuring illustrations by a local artist, raffle prizes, snacks and complimentary adult beverages for those who are old enough.
Santa Sangre Is a dizzying psychological horror extravaganza that follows Fenix, a young man traumatized by his childhood as a magician in the shabby circus ran by his father, Orgo, a cruel and lecherous knife thrower; and by the domineering presence of his mother, Concha, a trapeze artist who moonlights as the leader of a religious cult. Santa Sangre has been hailed as “extraordinary” (The Guardian), “visionary and haunting” (Rolling Stone) and “a grand work of art, full of symbols and imagery that reach beyond language to something primal and original” (AV Club). Santa Sangre is an epic odyssey through ecstasy and anguish, belief and blasphemy, beauty and madness.
