A screening of the 1922 classic with an original score performed live by Chayse Porter.
In Germany 1922, F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu – Eine Symphonie des Grauen was released and then nearly eradicated from the face of the earth by a lawsuit issued through Bram Stoker’s widow who had not approved of the adaptation of her late husband’s seminal novel, Dracula. Fortunately for us, copies escaped this had already made their way to the U.S.; and now—100 years later!—Nosferatu: A Symphony of Terror is considered a masterpiece of silent expressionist cinema and is one of the most endearing horror movies ever made.
Join us Under the Mountain on Sunday, November 13 for a very special screening of this beloved classic! In the spirit of keeping this movie as immediate an experience as it was in 1922, we have invited Birmingham musician Chayse Porter to perform an original live score to accompany this screening.
Chayse Porter has lived, worked and toured across the country, but considers Alabama his home. Besides being a solo artist, Chayse is also a member of the bands Bitter Calm, Bulging, and Seriously. He is also the co-host of TVs of Terror, a movie screening series based out of the Saturn music venue in Birmingham. TVs of Terror celebrates the charms of analog horror by screening VHS tapes on a big screen through Saturn’s world-class sound system; and by providing free snacks, games, prizes, and a sense of showmanship reminiscent of Elvira, Joe Bob Briggs, and Svengoolie.
Doors at 6:30pm; movie at 7:00pm
